Raheem L. Orr Sr. is the Founder and Executive Director of More Than A Sport, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering youth through education, athletics, and mentorship. Raised in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Raheem’s foundation was built on discipline, resilience, and leadership—values that would shape both his athletic and professional paths.
A standout student-athlete, Raheem was a three-year All-American linebacker during his high school football career. He continued his athletic journey at Rutgers University, where he became a 3-time All–Big East Conference defensive player, establishing himself as a dominant force on the field.
Raheem’s success led him to the professional ranks, where he was selected in the 7th Round of the NFL Draft by the Houston Texans. He later completed his NFL career with the New York Giants. Following the NFL, Raheem extended his playing career in the Arena Football League with the Philadelphia Soul, then owned by Jon Bon Jovi. In 2008, he celebrated an ArenaBowl Championship—adding a winning legacy to his professional résumé.
In 2009, Raheem transitioned from professional athletics into education, beginning his post-football career at a transitional school serving troubled youth. His passion for student development led him into leadership roles as a Dean of Students and later a Principal Fellow. Throughout his educational career, Raheem worked extensively with young people—supporting them academically, athletically, and through mentorship—where he recognized a critical need for holistic youth development beyond sports alone.
Raheem brings proven, people-centered leadership to every space he serves, highlighted by his impactful tenure as a Dean of Students. His work in shaping positive school culture, strengthening student engagement, and supporting staff excellence has earned him multiple honors, including the Distinguished School Leadership Award, Outstanding School Administrator Award, “Heart of the School” Award, and School Culture Builder Award. These recognitions reflect his unwavering commitment to creating safe, empowering environments where students are supported, educators are valued, and school communities thrive.
This realization led to the creation of More Than A Sport in 2014. After over a decade of grassroots growth, the organization officially achieved 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status in 2025. Over its 11-year journey, Raheem and his dedicated team of volunteers and board members have hosted 10 annual youth football camps and supported hundreds of young people through academic assistance, mentorship, and life-skills programming.
Today, Raheem is focused on expanding the reach and impact of More Than A Sport—serving underserved youth throughout Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and positioning the organization to grow into other urban communities nationwide. His mission remains clear: to show young people that success is more than a sport—it’s a way of life.
